Nicole Crockett

Program Coordinator

This year marks my 21st year at the Roads Program, and looking back, it feels like I've truly grown up alongside the participants. I've always believed that connection is at the heart of what we do here, and nothing brings me greater joy than seeing someone find their place within our community. Whether it's helping someone discover new friendships or witnessing that moment when they truly feel at home—those are the experiences that fuel my passion.

Over the years, I have immersed myself in many aspects of the support world, gaining valuable knowledge through courses at Camosun College and hands-on experience within group home settings and respite care. This journey has shaped my understanding and strengthened my commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we support.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is when someone who hasn't yet found the right fit joins our program and blossoms. When they settle in, open up, and start asking to attend more often, it’s an incredible feeling. Hearing from their support team that they’re "flabbergasted and over the moon" at the progress makes every effort worth it.

My favourite activities within the program are endless, but two stand out—seasonal celebrations and leading American Sign Language (ASL) classes. I love seeing everyone come together to celebrate, share, and learn from one another.

The Roads Program has truly become a second home to me. Many of our participants have witnessed milestones in my personal life—my marriage, the baby shower the program hosted for me (complete with a handmade quilt we still treasure), and so much more. We often laugh together and say that we’re growing old side by side, and that’s something truly special.

Outside of the program, I’m a dedicated mom, cheering on my daughter’s passion for dance and my son's drive for extreme sports. Our family loves camping and exploring the beautiful beaches around Victoria. Winter is my favourite season—my husband and son hit the mountains to snowboard while my daughter and I dive into every craft fair we can find. The ocean is my happy place, and there’s nothing I love more than celebrating Christmas together as a family.

Working at the Roads Program has been an incredible journey, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I am grateful every day to be part of such a caring, resilient, and connected community.
