Nicala Stacey

Program Director

Being part of the Roads Program means more to me than just a role—it's carrying on a legacy. Founded by Ruth Stacey over 25 years ago, the program has always been about building community, fostering connection, and creating opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to thrive. As Ruth’s daughter-in-law, it’s been an honour to step into this role and continue the work that she dedicated so much of her life to building.

My background is in business, design, and building, and I've spent years developing systems that not only support growth but also ensure resilience. When I came on board, I knew I wanted to bring new ideas and energy while honouring the heart and soul of what makes the Roads Program so special. Part of that has been modernizing our operations—introducing cloud-based systems, streamlining processes, and making sure our staff have the tools they need to succeed.

Mental health is an essential focus for me—both for the participants we support and the incredible staff who make it all possible. I'm passionate about incorporating practices that help regulate the nervous system, build emotional resilience, and foster healthier metabolic habits. I believe that creating an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and seen is the key to a thriving community.

Personally, I love working on projects that breathe new life into old ideas, and I see the Roads Program as a place where we can constantly grow and evolve while staying true to our roots. Outside of work, I’m surrounded by the energy of four teenagers and a love for spring—when everything feels renewed and full of potential.

I feel incredibly grateful to be part of this journey—leading a program that is rooted in love, care, and community while continuing to evolve and meet new challenges head-on. It’s an honour to work alongside a team that shares this vision and to support the incredible individuals who are at the heart of it all.
